Victorian Natural Red Coral "Picket and Berries" Collar Necklace
This late Victorian era collar (circa 1890) features hand carved natural red coral beads. The beads were cut into graduated “pickets” and petite round “berries” thus this design is known as “picket and berries”. The condition is beyond excellent. The stringing remains taught with perfect fluidity so that when the necklace is on it drapes effortlessly around your collarbone. The pickets range in length from 3/8” at the back to 7/8” at the center. The overall length of the necklace is 17” including the simple spring ring closure. The weight is wonderful registering on a scale at 27.6 grams. This is really a stunning piece of Victorian jewelry that will likely attract many glances and compliments! Perfect for a collector but extremely wearable.
