Rare! Victorian Buckle Choker Necklace
This choker is incredible! It's a gorgeous Victorian or Art Nouveau era buckle style necklace which is not only a beautiful motif but also a very functional idea...it allows the wearer to adjust the length to suit them. Meant to sit high across the throat it can be adjusted incrementally between 11-1/4" and 13-3/4". The highly detailed chain portion is a fixed length of 7-1/4" and since it is so decorative I imagine it could be worn in the front or the back. The width of the belt is 3/8" while the chain is about 1/2" wide. The metal is rolled gold and is in remarkable condition. There is one small section of wear on the edge of the belt strap portion. It reads more like patina but under magnification it is in fact minor wear. I don't think it detracts from the piece as a whole but I still took it into consideration when pricing. I've never seen another necklace quite like this! And with chokers having made such a strong comeback it's a very timely find!
