Mid-Century Sterling and Enamel Necklace

110.00

This incredibly artistic necklace was entirely handmade in the 1950s. Entirely handmade! The chain is sterling silver and features fourteen "figure 8" links which each have subtle carved grooves to create an interesting texture. Each link is connected to the next with a simple closed loop. The six center links of the chain were created with a fixed bale at the middle from which hang six handmade enamel pendants. Each pendant has its own unique characteristics within the bright enamel work. The colors used are completely amazing shades of orange, pink and yellow, ranging from pale to bright, and beautifully offset with a striking black border. The back of each pendant is enameled as well in a speckled grayish-black. This is an amazing example of mid century studio jewelry and in a very wearable form. The colors really are magnificent! And I consider the chain itself to be a wonderful accomplishment for the jeweler that made it. There are no hallmarks or signatures present but the metal does test positive as sterling. I chose to polish it only lightly yet if preferred I'll gladly polish it bright upon request. The condition is excellent with only little bits of copper showing through the very top of the enamel pendants. This does not affect the overall beauty of the piece but I felt it was important to mention. The length of the chain from end to end is 16". Each triangular pendant is approximately 1-1/2" long and about 3/4" wide at the widest point.
