Magnificent Opal Marquise Cocktail Ring, Circa 1950
This opal ring is absolutely magnificent! Likely made in the 1950s it features a remarkably lively opal marquise with unbelievable fire. The stone is simply exploding with color showing concentrations of fluorescent green, pink and yellow. The background color varies in strength depending on the light source but is best described as blue with underlying hints of purple. The colors within the stone are nicely spaced with no blank areas to speak of. From tip to tip the length of the opal measures an impressive 21mm with a central width of 7mm. The weight is estimated to be approximately 2.50ct to 2.75ct. The stone is set in a super stylish mid century mounting that is solid 14k white gold. The opal has a halo of 30 brilliant diamonds which are themselves surrounded by small beads of white gold that are dotted all the way around. This tiny beaded edge adds a significant quality and style to the design. At the shoulders there are four individual little bands that gradually taper and merge to become a simple 3mm shank. Currently the ring measures 6-1/2 and is sizable upon request. This is a serious statement ring with a simply stunning opal specimen!
