Antique Egyptian Revival Micro Mosaic Scarab Locket
This Victorian era micro mosaic pendant is a little more than impressive! In fact, it’s basically everything you could want in an antique Egyptian Revival piece of jewelry! First of all, the mosaic is in pristine condition: not a single tesserae missing. Secondly, the pendant itself is solid gold and exhibits very, very fine craftsmanship. There are incredibly thin twisted rope details throughout, tiny applied beads and minuscule sawtooth prongs. The iridescent glass tile scarab was designed to protrude slightly above the white mosaic background which gives the whole piece an incredible, realistic three dimensional quality. The reverse side of the pendant has an oval compartment covered with a removable beveled glass insert. The dimension of the compartment is 5/8” by 3/4” and is approximately 1/8” deep. The pendant itself measures 1-1/2” long (from fixed loop at top to outside of bottom gold ball detail) and 1-1/4” wide (from outside of opposing left and right gold ball details). The decorative bale adds an additional 1/2” to the length. The mosaic portion measures 16mm by 21mm. The depth of the pendant from the glass surface on the back to the highest point of the scarab is 12mm. This is truly a remarkable piece of history and exceptional craftsmanship and it’s pristine condition is awe-worthy making it an ideal addition to any antique jewelry collection.
