1930s Sweetheart Mercury Dime Pendant on 18k White Gold
Amazing Art Deco era silver Mercury dime “sweetheart” pendant mounted on 18k solid gold. The profile of Mercury was meticulously cut out from a coin and riveted through three black and white layers of what appear to be a wood-like material (possibly wood or maybe laminated Bakelite). The layers were carved into a heart shape with a beveled edge and the hidden rivet attaches them to a heavy 18k white gold base. Quite unusual to find such “ordinary” materials used alongside gold. Likely the only one of its kind, this very well crafted pendant measures 1-1/2” long by 1-1/4” wide. It hangs from a simple, sturdy 18-3/4” silver chain.
