1960s Hattie Carnegie Egyptian Revival Enamel Scarab Necklace
This highly collectible necklace was made in the 1960s by the Hattie Carnegie company. It was part of her ultra stylish Egyptian Revival collection which has remained fashionable all these years. The design consists of a large lucite scarab with articulated and brightly enameled wings. The enamel colors are in shades of aqua and green, arranged in an ombré effect, while the lucite scarab is in a lapis shade of blue. The gold plating on the metal is bright and in extremely good condition with only very minor signs of darkening on the underside where each wing connects to the next. The enamel is also in remarkable condition: still glossy and no chips or damage to speak of. The Hattie Carnegie signature panel is located on the back of the scarab. Overall this necklace is of an impressive scale with the wingspan measuring approximately 8-1/2" inches! The body of the scarab itself is approximately 1-1/4" long by 1" wide. To complete the necklace there are two lengths of chain attached to the tip end of each wing. One side of chain terminates with a simple hook fastener which can grab into any link on the opposite side allowing you to adjust the length to suit you. It can be worn anywhere from 14-1/2" to 16". This is an incredibly collectible piece of costume jewelry in remarkable condition and by one of the best mid-century designers. An amazing necklace that you just never see!!
