19th Century French 18k Turquoise Pavé Ribbon Brooch
Made in France in the mid to late 1800s this lovely 18k ribbon brooch was beautifully designed with undulating surfaces of pavé set turqoise. Not only are the stones so precisely set, nestled snugly together, but they are meticulously graduated in size to accentuate the tapering, realistic curves of the bow. A century of natural patina has created a variation in the color of the turquoise which now ranges from bright robin’s egg to light sky blue. There are two eagle head hallmarks (one on the pin and one on the catch) which identify the piece as 18k and indicate that it was made in France sometime after 1838. The pin mechanism measures approximately 1-5/8” from hinge to clasp. The bow itself is 1-3/4” wide and 1” tall. The back also has a discreet pendant hook which allows for the opportunity to hang a pendant, tassel or watch etc. Functional and beautiful just as it is but a wonderful candidate for a conversion piece. If you are interested in converting it into a necklace just let me know and we can discuss the options!
