Franz Scheuerle Sterling Silver Modernist Collar Circa 1970
This oh-so-chic sterling necklace was made by German designer Franz Scheuerle in or around 1970. The design and the craftsmanship are both exceptional! Very solid yet surprisingly lightweight, the necklace was constructed using four gently curved, square bars of silver. The bars have a fixed oval loop attached to each end and are connected to one another with a matching single oval loop...a pleasingly simple design. The closure is a sturdy fold-over clasp which functions with ease and and holds securely. Underneath the clasp are several hallmarks which indicate that the necklace is sterling (925), that it was made in Germany, and that the designer was Franz Scheuerle (FS). Each bar, measuring along the outside of its curve, is approximately 3-3/4" including the fixed loops. Overall, the entire necklace measures approximately 16". This is an excellent, modernist piece of jewelry that is very wearable. Easily a necklace you would be happy to wear every day!
