Victorian Enameled Bird Locket, Gilt and Rose Gold
What a beautiful antique locket! It's a truly wonderful combination of Victorian era design elements and textures. A majority of the locket is gilt in a bright yellow gold while the central oval is solid 10k rose gold. The locket opens to reveal two compartments for displaying a photo or other memento. And amazingly, it appears that the compartments were never used as what seems to be the original paper placeholders remain intact behind the glass. The focal point on the front of the locket is certainly the black enameled birds that decorate the rose gold centerpiece. The enamel work is in perfect condition and the glossy black is a stunning contrast against the deeply textured gold. The gilt portion of the locket serves to perfectly frame the centerpiece with a delicate, raised border design. The bale is quite decorative as well in it's beautiful tulip shape and four applied rose gold elements. Overall, the oval measures 1-1/4" by 7/8" and can accommodate 2 photos that measure 7/8" by 9/16". The length of the entire pendant, which includes the bale is 1-3/4". The locket will come with the 18" brass chain as pictured for no additional charge. If you are interested in purchasing a gold or gold filled chain to accompany the locket just let me know. I'd be happy to help in finding a suitable match.
