Belle Époque Masterpiece, Chrysoberyl and Emerald, Platinum Brooch

3,200.00

An Edwardian masterpiece, this brooch commands attention and awe. Not only is the craftsmanship astounding in its delicacy and precision but the bold use of color is quite surprising! When your familiarity with an era is primarily associated with black and white photography it can come as a surprise to see evidence that such saturated colors were being used. The central stone is a large (11 x 9.5 mm) faceted chrysoberyl which has a shocking natural color of acidic yellow. Surrounding the chrysoberyl is a narrow halo of little square cut emeralds while throughout the balance of the brooch are nearly one hundred glittering rose cut diamonds. The piece itself is solid 18k yellow gold with a dense layer of platinum on top. Each pointed leaf, vertical spindle and dainty border have the tiniest millegrain textured edges which adds to the overall impressive quality. The framework on the back is such that in addition to wearing it as a brooch you can easily convert it to a pendant with just a simple chain. The measurement left to right is approximately 1-1/4” and top to bottom measures the same. The pin mechanism measures 1” from the hinge to the clasp. A very fine piece of jewelry from a brief era known for such beautiful treasures.
