E A Bliss Co Rare Vauxhall Glass Festoon Necklace
This incredibly rare, signed E A Bliss Co necklace comes from what must be my most favorite jewelry era! Circa 1905-1910, during the height of the Arts and Crafts movement as it occasionally borrowed sinuous lines from the Art Nouveau aesthetic. The symmetrical design and overall shape of this necklace are absolutely outstanding! The royal, rich purple stones are faceted glass and are more specifically referred to as Vauxhall glass. They are recognizable by their mirror-like reflective quality and saturated, strong colors and indeed Vauxhall glass is quite collectible in its own right. The chain itself is decorative and really wonderful with a shallow festoon detail on each side of the pendant. The total length of the chain, from end to end, is 17" while the pendant creates a 2" drop and is approximately 2-3/4" at the widest point. The condition is very, very good with no stones or parts missing and only a slight, albeit expected patina on small areas of the pendant. The E A Bliss Co was the precursor to Napier and this "honeybee" version of their hallmark was used between 1890 and 1917.
