Midcentury Rhinestone and Cat's Eye Glass Pendant, Circa 1960
This jewel-encrusted, paisley-shaped mid century pendant is kind of amazing! Completely covered in prong-set jewels it glitters and sparkles phenomenally in any lighting and at every angle. The rhinestones are in pretty shades of light olive green, pale citrine yellow and a soft brownish topaz color. The glass stones are an opaque butterscotch yellow with a "cat's eye" effect through the center. The paisley pendant is further enhanced by being suspended from a matching decorative bale. The bale has a shallow hidden loop at the back through which runs a wonderful 18" foxtail chain. The pendant is not signed but the "antique" brassy color of the metal combined with the overall style and quality of the piece makes me wonder if perhaps it was made by Regency. I won't claim that it was but it certainly seems possible! The condition is excellent. All stones are present and secure and none are dull or discolored. The dimension of the paisley drop is 2-1/4" long and about 1-5/8" at the widest point. The decorative bale adds an extra 3/4" to the length. This is an excellent mid century piece with a surprisingly contemporary appeal!
