1930s BIG Carved Butterscotch Bakelite Beads, Coral Celluloid Details
This 1930s Bakelite necklace features beautifully carved beads in “butterscotch” and “brown swirl” with cute little coral celluloid and cobalt glass spacers. The five large beads in the center are an excellent size, each measuring 20mm side to side and 24mm across it’s middle. The beads appear to be on their original string which is in fact a thick double strand in very good condition. There is no slack or fraying. The clasp is “invisible” meaning the final two beads are discreetly connected by a threaded barrel mechanism which opens by simply unscrewing them. The overall condition of the necklace is perfect with the exception of a darkened area on one of those last two beads. Likely the result of them being tested for amber. They do resemble butterscotch amber very much so it’s no wonder someone tested them. Although I mention the dark spot as an imperfection it does not detract from the overall quality or collectibility of the necklace. The length is 19” from end to end.
