Magnificent Arts and Crafts Opal Ring
This ring, beautiful in its simplicity, is perfectly suited to show off the natural wonder of this opal. It was likely made in or around 1910, during the Arts and Crafts period. It is 14k yellow gold and the design really quite smart. The opal is held securely with a smooth, rounded, thin bezel. The bezel setting visually "floats" within a gold halo but is actually held in place with four discreet points of gold that bridge the narrow distance between the bezel and the halo. This narrow space creates a shadowy recess that beautifully frames the opal. The balance of the ring is sturdy with only rounded or gently curved angles...so simple and stylish. A no-fuss lovely piece of handmade jewelry! The opal is completely natural. It measures 10mm by 8mm and you won't believe the color when you see it in person! Mostly blue with strong green flashes and one little pool of lavender. It's absolutely breathtaking. The outer measurement of the halo north to south is 13.5mm and side to side is 11mm. The shank measures 2mm at the shoulder and tapers to 1.5mm at the base. The top of the opal will sit 5mm above your finger. Currently a size 6-1/4, the ring is sizable up or down upon request.
