Georgian-era Sterling Hair Comb with Graduated Large Paste Stones
So pretty!!! This hair comb is so lovely and simply a wonderful antique object! There are no hallmarks present but it does test as sterling silver. I'm estimating it is from the Georgian era based on the overall style, craftsmanship and the gorgeous old cut paste stones. They are rather large and deep with the center size measuring 8mm around. They gradually taper with the stones on either end measuring approximately 5.5mm. The pastes are set low into 2mm deep bezels and then held securely with rounded prongs in the front. There is a pretty floral stamped banding that is soldered just below the stones. The width of the banding is approximately 2-3/4". The teeth extend approximately 2-1/4" down from the back of the floral band. This is a very elegant hair accessory that would be a great enhancement to a wedding hairstyle! But it's also subtle enough to wear casually as a way to secure your messy up-do!
