Old Mine Cut Diamond Engagement Ring, circa 1900
This lovely solitaire engagement ring is so unique! It dates to around 1900 and features the most dazzling Old Mine cut diamond. The approximate weight is .40ct with the color estimated as G to H and I clarity. This diamond is extremely brilliant! The cut is almost a cushion with a large culet and a high crown...my favorite kind of old mine! It gives the stone lots of depth and creates beautiful, constant refraction.
The setting is also very exciting! There are remnants of a hallmark inside the shank but all I can make out is the first letter which is a capital B. It does test as 14k gold and is a very unique shade. The best description is champagne (not yellow, not white, but some lovely place in between!) The design is one I've not seen before. From the top looking down it resembles a small flower. And from the sides you can see it is comprised of 6 elongated prongs with a gold ball suspended in between each. The shoulders remain perfectly simple as they taper down to form the shank. Currently the ring measures as a 7 on the mandrel. Sizing up or down is available upon request.
