Gorgeous Antique Filigree and Diamond Hinged Bangle
The filigree panel on this bracelet is utterly divine! Extremely beautiful with delicate, thin lacy lines of 18k white gold that create an absolutely elegant design. The geometry of the filigree pattern is ethereal and feminine with a pleasing complexity of curved lines intersecting straight lines which turn and taper all the way to the very edge. The craftsmanship is just remarkable! And making the panel even more beautiful are three little glittering old cut diamonds. Each diamond is bead-set into it's own little mounting which is enhanced with a delicate double milgrain border. The filigree panel is gently curved and rests atop a 14k yellow gold hinged bangle. The upper half of the bangle has a wonderful scroll design on all three sides taking the bracelet right over the top! There is a simple push-button mechanism just opposite the hinge. The bracelet opens with ease and clicks closed with no effort. It holds securely and has an added "figure 8" safety feature for extra security. There is a 14k hallmark on the underside of the upper half of the bangle. There is no hallmark on the filigree portion but it does test positive for 18k. My opinion, based on years of experience, is that this extraordinary bracelet was designed in the 1960s as a customized conversion piece. The Edwardian era filigree element most likely started its life as a brooch. It was possibly inherited or acquired in the 1960s by the next owner who wished to wear it as a bracelet instead. Their idea resulted in a one-of-a-kind beauty that is very wearable! Perfect for a bride or a stunning addition to a bracelet stack! The width, north to south, at the center diamond is 10mm. The width gradually tapers as it connects to the bangle which measures approximately 4mm wide all the way around. From hinge to clasp the opening is 2-1/4". From top to bottom, on center, the opening is 2". The best fit will be on a wrist that measures between 6 and 6-3/4".
