Finest Edwardian Filigree Diamond Engagement Ring
This Edwardian era diamond ring has all the desirable details you could imagine! It dates from right around 1920 when airy, angelic filigree jewelry was still masterfully hand carved. In this case, the filigree sides and the metal that surrounds the diamond are platinum while the balance of the ring is 14k yellow gold. Set into the platinum is a remarkably brilliant +/- .65ct Old European cut diamond. The color and clarity are estimated as H (near colorless) and VS1. In fact the clarity is so good that it may even be in the VVS range. The stone exhibits excellent Old European cut characteristics such as a small culet and a beautifully high crown. The platinum that surrounds the diamond has pretty geometric details that serve as a delicate frame that showcases the stone nicely. On the north and south sides of the ring is where you find the remarkable filigree work. The simple yet intricate design is absolutely gorgeous...somewhat reminiscent of cathedral windows. And in a way, the filigree serves the same purpose: an artistic and elegant way to let light in to illuminate the diamond. The shoulders of the mounting are equally if not more beautiful than the filigree! The hand carved design is worth looking closely at. It is a stunning, symmetrical pattern of wonderful leaf-like elements combined with tiny millegrain borders. The crispness of the detail is outstanding. In addition, the shoulders have a graceful proportion as they slope downward and taper to become the shank. And as to spare no detail, the shank has a very fine groove through the center that runs the full length. I've seen many engagement rings over the years and several have stood out for either a remarkable diamond or a noteworthy setting and sometimes the two combine. Yet this ring, by far, combines those two elements the best! The mounting is undeniably exquisite and the diamond is so clean and deep and brilliant...this ring is simply astounding. I think it'll be my favorite for a long time to come! Currently the size is 4-3/4 and it can be sized upon request.
