Classic Vintage Platinum Engagement Ring, c. 1940
It doesn't get more classic than this! Set into a circa 1940 solid platinum mounting is an exceptional vintage modern brilliant cut diamond. The estimated weight of the central diamond is .40ct with an excellent estimation of color and clarity (F; VVS1). The setting is enhanced with three full cut diamonds, in graduated sizes, on each shoulder which total an additional .15ct. Each of the small side diamonds are individually bead-set with a very fine milgrain border. The border gradually tapers to a point where the simple knife-edge shank begins. This is a subtle and perfect design detail...the way the tip end of the point mirrors the peak of the knife-edge: simple but brilliant. The style of mounting for the center diamond is known as a classic "fishtail" setting which is a decorative cluster of three small platinum beads at each corner. The detail of the mounting as viewed from the sides is beautiful as well with strong lines of platinum giving the ring a wonderful, architectural quality. The measurement north to south across the diamond is 5mm. The shoulders are approximately 3mm wide and taper very gradually to 1.5mm at the very base of the shank. Currently the ring measures a size 8-1/2 on the mandrel and is sizable upon request. This ring is simple and classic and perfect!
